When it comes to detailing, even we can admit, a lot of the technical detailing terms can be confusing and hard to follow. In this blog we plan to explain exactly how our new service can restore your vehicle's paint, without any confusing jargon.
As you can see, vehicle paint generally consists of four levels. The metal (body) panel, the primer, then a colour coat and a clear coat. As detailers our focus is usually only on the clear coat and taking scratches out of it so the surface can reflect like a diamond. When we “buff” a panel we’re actually taking off layers of the clear coat until there is no longer a scratch.
Buffing is an extremely effective paint reconditioning method but it isn’t for all vehicles and there’s a limit to how many times you can buff a panel. There’s only so much clear coat that can be removed before there’s no more. Some vehicles will simply not have enough clear coat left to buff (due to excessive buffing/washing over the years) or they can have scratches in the clear coat too deep to buff. Other times the clear coat can become very sunburnt.
All these situations call for a different solution. Something that doesn’t require intense buffing. Of course you could opt to repaint, but there’s a more cost-effective way to give your vehicle a long-lasting shine. This is where a hand-applied clear coat fits in…
The idea with a hand-applied clear coating method is rather than removing the clear coat you’re actually adding to the existing clear coat.
Derived from real automotive clear coat, the product (Perma Clear Coating) is designed to bond with the existing clear coat of the paint to fill in scratches, remove blemishes and discolouration. The auto-levelling and self-correcting properties of the product allow for the clear coat to be applied by hand rather than sprayed on like a typical paint job.
Essentially, this coating restores that original “new car” shine in a way that’s as permanent as a new paint job but at a fraction of the price.
Once this product cures, it is fully one with the paint. So exactly like paint it can be buffed, coated with ceramic or scratched if you aren't careful.
Our vision with this product is to offer it as an alternative for times when buffing isn’t the right choice.
Here’s a few instances where we could see this being the perfect solution…
A farmer looking to protect his expensive investments from the sun.
Truckers looking for a solution longer lasting than buffing and significantly cheaper than a new paint job.
Vehicle re-sellers looking to boost the vehicles resale value.
Antique owners wanting to restore that “new car look” in their pride and joy.
Here’s a before and after for you...
And another...
